A man has been rushed to hospital after he became trapped inside his car when he crashed on a busy main road.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Tower Road, Blackburn, just after 2.30pm on Thursday.

Crews from Blackburn and Bamber Bridge fire stations attended and found a vehicle had rolled over and the man, who is in his early 20s was trapped inside.

Firefighters released the man and he was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries to his neck and back.

Crew Manager Mark Hoyle from Blackburn fire station said: "The car had come off the road and gone down an embankment and rolled once before landing back on its wheels about five metres away from the road.

"We cut the driver out as a precaution and he was taken to Royal Preston Hospital.
“No other vehicles were involved but we think he’s hit a boulder in the road which has caused the car to roll."

Firefighters were in attendance approximately one hour and twenty minutes.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: "We were called at 2.13pm and have taken a patient to Royal Preston Hospital suffering with neck and back injuries."
