FIREFIGHTERS were called to a kitchen fire in Blackburn.
Crews were called to Higson Street at 10.45am.
A fire service spokesman said a piece of cardboard had caught fire after it was left too close to the oven hob.
The spokesman said: "No one suffered any injuries and we were there for around half an hour.
"However the smoke alarm did not work.
"We advise everyone to test their alarms as those inside the house would have been alerted to the fire a lot sooner if it was working properly."
