ALMOST half of a-levels at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy students were graded at A* to B.

The same goes for those who studied vocational subjects, with almost half gaining distinction* or distinction grades.

Some of the star students included Joshua Southworth, who gained an A* and two As, and will further his education at Durham University and study biological sciences.

Chloe Simm got two distinction *s and an A* and will physical education and school sport at Edge Hill University.

Lisa Dolan, the academy's principal, said: "We are really proud of the achievements of all of our students again this year.

"Building on our success in previous years, and against the backdrop of greater rigour and examination content in BTEC subjects in particular this year, they have been rewarded with some excellent results after their hard work. "
