BRIGHT young pupils at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School Sixth Form are celebrating outstanding results.

Carl Ashworth of Whitworth gained three A*s and two As, and will read engineering at Cambridge.

Mark Chambers of Rossendale gained four A*s and will be studying maths at Durham.

Joseph Coong of Whitewell Bottom gained four A*s and will be studying medicine at Edinburgh.

The percentage of students achieving the top A-level grades from A* to B was 58 per cent.

Headteacher Alan Porteous said: "Congratulations to all of our year 13 students on their A-level results.

"These results reflect their hard work and dedication coupled with the commitment of experienced teachers who have prepared them for these examinations.

"We wish our students well as they go on to the next stage of their journey, whether to further study at university, higher level apprenticeships or into employment."

The overall achievement at A*/A was 32 per cent.
