A DRIVER has been arrested after running down a motorway in the pitch black.
The man, who had abandoned his car on the M61 services, crossed the carriageway twice and ran down one of the motorway's lanes.
Police officers were alerted to his actions and had to close a section of the motorway as they dealt with the man.
He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and for being a pedestrian on a motorway.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "Can you see this pedestrian? Incredibly lucky not to have been killed after abandoning his car on the M61 services, crossing the carriageway twice & running down lane two.
"If you were stuck in the closures, we hope this justifies it. You wouldn't see him at 70mph.
"The driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and for being a pedestrian on a motorway. Thanks to @HighwaysNWEST for their assistance."
