A CHURCH in East Lancashire is hosting a summer concert to help fund its lychgate repairs.
The lychgate at the front entrance of Edenfield Parish Church is an important factor in the church being listed as a Grade II* building.
A campaign has been launched to raise the £8,000 needed.
One of the churchwardens, Mark Studholme, raised £1,200 by completing the Rossendale Triathlon, and a member of the congregation, Marika Metiuk, is now hosting a summer concert.
Churchwarden David Foster said: "A very warm welcome awaits on August 17 as part of our efforts to return the lychgate to its former glory."
The concert will be held in Market Street in the village, on Saturday, August 17, at 7.30pm and will feature Marika singing a variety of songs.
The parish church in its current form dates back to 1778 but there was a chantry chapel on the site as early as the 13th century.
Historians say the oldest part of the existing church is the tower, which can be dated to the 16th century.
Tickets for the concert cost £5 and can be bought from David Foster on 01706 825648 or by e-mail ingdavidsfoster@btinternet.com
