A MAIN town centre road is set to close on a couple of days this month due to large demolition work.

Barbara Castle Way will be closed between Eanam roundabout to Penny Street today from 6am to 8pm.

Closures will also take place on Sunday, August 18 and 25 between the same time periods.

Lancashire Telegraph:

A Blackburn with Darwen Council spokesman said this is due to the ongoing Thwaites brewery demolition.

The spokesman said: "Large brewing tanks need to be removed via a crane.

"To carry out the removal of the tanks safely., the section of the road will be closed.

"Barbara Castle Way in the other direction between Penny Street and Eanam roundabout will be unaffected.

"The closures will be in place between 6am and 8pm with traffic being diverted to Eanam, Salford and Penny Street.

"The bus lane has been suspended during the closures.

"Additional closures may be required as this is entirely weather dependant in which we are experiencing a lot of rain and wind at the moment.

"We'll keep you updated as works progresses."
