AN APPEAL for information has been launched following a fight between two sets of football fans.

Officers from the British Transport Police are seeking details about a scuffle that took place on a train between Preston and Blackburn stations on Saturday July 27 at around 8pm.

The incident is believed to have involved fans from Burnley and Blackburn.

Both teams had been playing away on that day, with Blackburn fans travelling to Bloomfield Road for their match with Blackpool, while Burnley fans made the trip to the DW Stadium to play Wigan.

The train journeys would have meant both sets of fans had to travel through or change at Preston to reach their final destinations, travelling back home the same way.

A spokesperson for the BTP said: “A large of number of men, suspected to have been involved in the fight, were ejected from the service at Blackburn.

“The train was the 7.21pm Blackpool North to York service. Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.”

Witnesses can contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40.
