TRAFFORD MV step up their pre-season plans with a competitive friendly at Eccles on Saturday, kick off 2pm.

Training numbers have been good over the last month with 35-40 players at every session which bodes well for the club in getting teams out for the 2019/20 season which begins in earnest in September.

MV head into the new season led by new club captain Pat Eccles and coached by last season's skipper Andy Quigley and local teacher Stuart Crampton. They will be competing in the 12-team ADM Lancashire Premier League, playing against the best amateur clubs in the county and will be looking to improve on their disappointing showing last season.

MV also have a friendly lined up against Leigh RFC on August 17 before going into their first game of the season at Southport on August 31 in the Lancashire Cup.

Trafford MV's commitment to the community was highlighted recently as the club hosted a charity fancy dress rugby match in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, which raised around £3,000 for the cause.
