SHOPS and apartments could be built on wasteland on the edge of Bury town centre.

Plans for six shops and ten apartments in Rochdale Road, close to the junction with York Street, were submitted to Bury Council last month.

Developer Decorum (NW) Ltd initially received the green light to build six shops and 24 flats in three and four storey blocks on the site, which is owned by Bury Council, in April 2017.

Under those plans, most of the buildings were earmarked to be “cornflower blue”.

At the time, one objection to the application called the height and style “ridiculous”.

The plans have since been amended by the developer, with the number of flats now reduced to 10 and the height of the blocks lowered to two and three storeys. A number of parking bays are also planned for the back of the site.

The land was previously home to a pub, The Claybank, and houses but these were demolished between 1994 and 2002. Since then it has been empty and used unofficially for parking.

Decorum (NW) Ltd have been approached for comment.
