A police officer has issued passers-by who helped her arrest a violent man, with a heartfelt thank you.

PC Sally Biggar who works in Ribble Valley's Rural West team, attended an incident in the Mitton area of Whalley on Saturday August 3.

Reports had been made that a man had been walking in the path of oncoming vehicles on rural roads and there was a concern for his safety and mental health.

On arrival at the scene, PC Biggar attempted to detain the man but he became violent.

She was assisted by some passers-by who helped her make an arrest.

Posting on social media, PC Biggar said: "I would like to thank members of the public who assisted me whilst dealing with a violent male in the Mitton area of Whalley.

"The male was taken to the police station where his welfare was addressed and he was later charged and released."
