THE latest phase of plans to improve one of the oldest parks in Hyndburn have been submitted.

Andrew Hayhurst has submitted plans on behalf of Hyndburn Council for the demolition of the existing bowling pavilion and build a new facility on Milnshaw Park.

Cllr Paul Cox, who represents the Milnshaw ward, believes it is good news for the area.

He said: "It will be providing better facilities, better toilets and refreshment areas and will replace the current pavilion which has aged.

"It has been there a long time, about 60-70 years I think, and it has got to the point where it needs improvements.

"It is just the next phase of the project to improve the park as we had the footpaths done then the outdoor gym going there as well as the play park which is popular and the bowling pavilion is the next one.

"Milnshaw Park is one of the oldest municipal parks in Hyndburn and a generation has lost out not enjoying it and when I was elected in 2011 I wanted to improve it and it is happening.

"It has taken a long time with the help of the Friends of Milnshaw Park too."
