AN investigation has been launched after a suspected "human bone" was found in Prestwich.
Police were called to land off Derby Street shortly before 8.20pm on Friday to reports of the discovery.
A scene was in place on the street while forensics officers carried out enquiries into where the bone, which is thought to be a femur, had come from.
Police say there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called shortly before 8.20pm on Friday to a report that a suspected human femur bone had been found on land off Derby Street, Prestwich.
"A scene remains in place on Derby Street while forensic work is carried out to establish the origin of the bone.
"Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing but, at this time, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
