POLICE driving along Whalley Road in Great Harwood late at night could smell cannabis coming from the car in front.

Blackburn magistrates heard when they stopped the car driven by Samuel Jones they immediately noticed his pupils were enlarged and there was a strong smell of cannabis from inside the car.

Jones, 21, of Lomax Close, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to driving while over the limit for a specified drug.

He was banned from driving for 12 months, fined £90 with £50 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said when he was stopped Jones admitted smoking a joint about 15 minutes earlier.

Duncan Nightingale, defending, said Jones was in the process of giving a friend a lift home when he was stopped at 11.10pm on April 18.
