TWO properties were flooded as the heavy rain drenched East Lancashire over the weekend.

Firefighters were called to Market Street in Whitworth at 6pm on Sunday as the basements in the buildings had flooded.

A fire service spokesman said the flooding had affected the electricity supplies and crews were there for four hours pumping water from the basements.

Chris Howarth, a fire service watch manager, said: "Both properties had approximately four feet of water in them due to the amount of rain that had fallen during the day."
