A MUSIC festival would not be the same without heavy rain and lots of mud.

It certainly did not put a dampener on the thousands of people who turned out to enjoy the Wonderwood music festival at Witton Park on Saturday.

Ravers, dancers and festival lovers gathered to party into the night as music pulsated around the park in Blackburn.

The three stages, Panoramia, The Warren and VIP section Arcane, were bursting with top international rappers, DJs and producers - who put out the best of house, bass, grime and techno.

Among those playing were UK grime king Bugzy Malone, house royalty, Gorgon City; Manchester’s red hot, Mason Collective; Sam Divine who has played some of Europe's biggest festivals and New York house legend, Todd Terry.

Festival goer Katie Smythe, 20, and her friend Sara-Mae Hutchinson, 20, from Blackburn said: "It's been wicked.

"We've loved the fact it’s been wet and rainy, that's what going to a festival is all about."

Other acts who performed included house favourites Sonny Fodera and Low Steppa and DJ Tom Zanetti.

Jonny Bentley, 27, from Preston, who was with his girlfriend Louise Oldman, 24 and friends, said: "It's got a great atmosphere but it's felt safe too.

"I've only seen people in good spirits - there's no one in trouble or causing trouble.

"Everyone is here to enjoy the music and that's why the festival has done so well."

A police spokesman said the festival took place without trouble.

Those at the festival could eat a variety of foods from all over the world, get festival-ready with glitter painting, as well as featuring a relaxation area and VIP seating.

The festival was put together by the same team responsible for the highly-successful PierJam event in Blackpool and BassJam which has been staged at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester.
