TWO sixth-form students have seen Westminster at work thanks to their MP.
Haslingden High School pupils Abbie Melvin, 16, and Isabelle Reed, 17, spent the day in Parliament after Hyndburn MP Graham Jones invited them to his House of Commons office for the day.
The pair also had a tour of the Palace of Westminster with his aide Jake Kelly.
The spent the rest of the day shadowing Mr Jones.
Miss Melvin said, “It was so fascinating shadowing Graham and learning about what an MP does, as well as watching Prime Minister's Questions which I loved. "It inspired me to learn more about the political side of our country, as I believe many young people do not know enough about how our country is run.”
Miss Reed said, “I thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was nice to be at the centre of politics, from the tour with Jake in the morning to Graham showing us how it all worked. It was very insightful!”
Mr Jones said, “I was delighted to host work experience students from Haslingden. Isabelle and Abbie had a fantastic day shadowing me and seeing how Parliament works up close.”
