FAMILIES in Bolton have been encouraged to get moving as part of a new campaign.

'That Counts', launched by Sport England, is aiming to reduce inactivity in Greater Manchester by 2021.

It comes as figures show that 27 per cent of adults in the region are classed as 'inactive', meaning they get less than 30 minutes of exercise per week.

Its launch coincided with the final day of the Sport on the Square event on Thursday, which transformed Victoria Square into a theatre of sport.

Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Hilary Fairclough, took part in a number of activities aimed at boosting physical health and mental wellbeing.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Cllr Susan Baines, said:

“Sport or other physical activities are a vital part of staying healthy for people of all ages. It’s not just young people who need regular exercise, it is important for adults to take part in sport of other physical activities to help keep their minds and bodies healthy."
