A BODY has been found inside a vehicle in a car park.

The woman’s remains were discovered inside the back of a car on Bradshaw Street, in Church, after the alarm had been raised at around 9am today.

The body has not yet been identified but police have said they believe it to be that of a woman.

Police said the woman’s death is being treated as ‘unexplained’.

A post mortem examination to establish the cause of her death is set to take place in the coming days.

It is unclear at this stage how long the woman had been in the car before her body was discovered.

A police spokesman said: “We were called shortly before 9am on July 26 to reports that a body had been found inside the back of a car in a car park on Bradshaw Street in Church.

“The body remains in situ at this time whilst officers undertake their inquiries.”

Police taped the scene off following the discovery near to Sacred Heart RC Primary School.

A forensics tent was also put up around the car while several police vans, police cars and crime scene investigation vans were present at the incident.

An ambulance was also in attendance at the scene.

Residents and businesses living nearby described their shock at the news.

One resident, of Barnes Street, said: “I’m really shocked at what’s happened, especially with the body being found so close to my home.

“The police have been here since early this morning when I saw them put up the forensics tent where the car and body are.”

Another resident, who lives on Henry Street, said: “I came back home at about 10am and there were police cars and an ambulance there.

“It’s terrible what’s happened and not what you expect to see.”

A business owner, who preferred not to be named, said: “I’d just got into work and I saw lots of police everywhere.

“I’d heard that a body had been found.

“It’s sad what’s happened and my thoughts are with the person’s family.”
