ONE of East Lancashire’s iconic landmarks has been immortalised in the shape of a stylish necklace.

Gold and Times, which sits in Darwen Market, is selling an exclusive Darwen Tower pendant in the choice of different metals.

The necklace, which is only available to buy online, can be bought with or without a gemstone on the left side of the pendant, and can be bought in silver, gold, rose gold or platinum.

Proud Darreners can get their hands on one of these necklaces for as little as £112 for the basic sterling silver necklace.

However those wanting to splash the cash can add a diamond stone of high quality and clear colour, surrounded by a platinum pendant and spend £1,186 on a necklace.

Katie Gardiner, sales assistant at the jewellers, said: “We’ve had lots of interest already about the pendant and it’s been brought up in conversation.

“I think it’s a really nice necklace and it sits really well.

“As Darreners know we are really proud of where we are and this would make a great gift for anyone.

“Which so much good things happening at the moment, especially with the new market square, it’s a great time to get a piece of Darwen memorabilia.”

Darwen Tower was built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee and opened to the public in 1898.

It stands 85 feet tall on top of Darwen Hill, which is 1,220 feet tall.

Walkers can climb to the top of the tower via the internal staircase to admire the views of Lancashire, with Blackpool Tower, North Yorkshire and Southport visible from the top.

Ms Gardiner said: “We only have one in stock at the shop at the moment to show customers.

“The rest have to be specially made.

“We’ve always sold a version of the Darwen Tower necklace but this is a brand new one and we expect to sell quite a few.”

One Darwen Market customer said: “I like the look of the necklace, it’s pretty and elegant.

“It would be a nice treat for someone, I might have to go and have a look at it.”
