A CONCERNED mum is warning parents and children to be aware of the dangers of drugs after her six-year-old daughter took a ‘mysterious pill’.

Samantha Green, was playing in York Street, Church, on Sunday afternoon with one of her friends - said to be of a similar age - when they found a pill, which Samantha then took.

After she had swallowed it, Samantha's mum, Stephanie Green, said her daughter was ‘very sleepy and slow’.

The girl was was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital and had the drug flushed out of her system. She was discharged the following day.

It was later discovered that the pill was a kind of amphetamine.

Police said no arrest has been made in connection with the incident and it is not thought any crime has been committed.

Mrs Green said: “It happened outside our home. My daughter’s friend saw her take it. My main thoughts were to make sure Samantha was okay and get her help.

“We were told by the hospital she had taken Dextroamphetamine.

“I am saddened this happened and I don’t blame the other family. It was a terrible thing that happened but the good thing is my daughter is okay and safe.”

Mrs Green said she is concerned about what happened and warned other parents about the dangers of what their children can find on the street.

She said: “It only takes a split second as we just nipped in to put the kettle on.

“That’s when it happened. I would say to be careful what your children play with.

“This used to be a very quiet street. Everyone plays with everybody and it’s just shocked the whole street.”

A police spokesman said: “We have received a report that a child was taken ill on Sunday, July 21. It is believed the girl, age six, had swallowed part of a tablet she had found whilst playing outside close to York Street in Church. The girl was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

“No arrests have been made and it is not believed any offences have taken place.”

Cllr Loraine Cox, who represents the Church ward, said: “I hope the girl and family are safe and well. I would ask people to be vigilant and report to police and the council if they spot anything suspicious.”
