ROSSENDALE and Darwen MP Jake Berry has been given a major promotion and will sit in at Cabinet meetings in new Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government reshuffle.

He keeps his Northern Powerhouse responsibility as he is elevated to become a minister of state at the Department for Communities and Local Government from his previous post as parliamentary under-secretary.

His responsibilities also include local growth and he has been made a member of the Privy Council and will also be part of the Cabinet Office ministerial team,.

Mr Berry said: "I am really pleased to have been promoted and to have a seat at Cabinet meetings with my Northern Powerhouse responsibility.

"The fact the the Northern Powerhouse now has a seat at the top table is a clear sign from our new Prime Minister that as well as delivering on Brexit and uniting the country, he's putting the North of England at the heart of his new Government.

"I look forward to working with Boris to make a real difference for everyone across Rossendale and Darwen, East Lancashire and the North of England.This is about my role not about me."
