A TEENAGE girl suffered serious leg injuries when she was hit by a car in Baxenden. 

Emergency services were called at around 2pm on Wednesday to reports of a Renault Kadjar in collision with a pedestrian on Manchester Road.

A 16-year-old girl was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with serious leg injuries.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a collision involving a female pedestrian and a Renault Kadjar near to the Bay Horse pub.

"An ambulance was on scene and an air ambulance was called.

"She was taken by ambulance to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

People on social media reported that the road was shut off by police following the crash.

They said traffic was redirected down the A56.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We sent an ambulance, air ambulance and rapid response vehicle to the scene.

" A 16-year-old girl was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with serious leg injuries."
