A DRUNKEN motorist crashed into two parked cars as she drove home at 8.30pm.

Blackburn magistrates heard the owner of one of the vehicles was able to remove the keys from her car and watched Rebecca Hargreaves "stumble" to her nearby home.

Hargreaves, 23, of Bold Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to driving with failing to provide a specimen for analysis, driving without insurance and failing to stop after a crash. She was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement, fined £30 with £90 victim surcharge and £30 costs. She was banned from driving for 30 months.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said when police arrived they were directed to the defendant's home. She gave a breathalyser reading of 105 against the legal limit of 35 but when she was taken to the police station refused to provide evidential samples.

She told the officers she didn't want to speak to them and didn't want them speaking to her.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client genuinely believed she had been covered by insurance but accepted that by her actions she had caused loss to others.

"She behaved in a way that is totally out of character," said Mr Price.

"She describes herself as being at "rock bottom" on the day after being told she needed an operation and she drank more than she normally would."
