A record breaking number of people attended a family fun day to take part in a range of educational activities.

Held at Nelson and Colne College on June 22, more than 1,800 people joined staff from Lancashire Adult Learning for the annual Family Fun Day where they enjoyed a wide range of fantastic, free, and fun Lancashire Adult Learning activities, including Lego Robotics, Ozobots, Picture Animation, and arts and crafts tasks.

Market stalls with hand-crafted gifts, face painting, balloon modelling stands and food stalls proved extremely popular.

And visitors had the chance to challenge themselves on a sports inflatable, meet a number of visiting animals from Wellybobs Mobile Farm, enjoy a Flashbang Science Show, laugh at children’s entertainer Dizzy Dave, and get fit with Pendle Leisure Trust’s activities.

Charlotte Underwood, from Nelson, attended with her son Austin, six, and niece, Holly, three.

She said: "It’s a been a great day. The children have really enjoyed the tombolas and the weather has been lovely.

"We’ve been to the event for the last two years and it’s a good event – getting families together to enjoy activities, and there is always plenty to do."

Sunicha Hirst, from Colne, visited with her daughter Isabella, 11, and son Leighton-James, six.

She said: "There is something for everyone. My children loved the Ozobots and spent ages playing with them, and we really enjoyed the Science experiment. It’s good that the day is educational as well."

Principal Amanda Melton said: "The Family Fun Day is one of the events of the year that people really look forward to and I’m delighted to see that a record number of visitors came along to enjoy our brilliant line up of activities this year and to also enjoy the excellent entertainment on offer on the day."
