ROCK on the Rec returns to Ribchester on Saturday featuring six local bands playing live.

The one-day festival is a fund-raiser for Ribchester Rovers which has an increasing junior section and a new senior women’s team.

Organiser Ben Jones said: “The sole purpose of this family based music event is to raise funds and promote Ribchester Football Club and all we do for the community.”

Headlining this year’s event will be Clitheroe-based Good Foxy who are currently putting the finishing touches to their second album.

The live music line-up also includes Breaking Waves, The Slydes, Violent Skies, Halcyon, and 53 Degrees North

The family-friendly event will also feature a bouncy castle, rides, a magician, food stalls and for the first time, a gin bar.

The football club has two senior men’s teams playing in summer and winter leagues, a veterans’ men’s team and junior teams at different ages.

The latest addition is the women’s team which, helped by the publicity of the World Cup, is gaining popularity and momentum.

They have just entered a team in the Lancashire FA Women’s Summer League and already have a squad of around 29 involved with ages ranging from 19-45.

Ben said: “The new ladies’ section is typical of the inclusive nature of our club. The motto of ‘If you want to play, we will find a way’ extends to all. Whatever your age or gender playing football is a great way to meet new people, get fitter and enjoy the community, so come on down and join the club!”

Rock on the Rec begins at 12.30 on Saturday.
