HYNDBURN'S Carers Group and Burnley's Coal Clough Lane Community Association were among small organisations to receive a share of £46,000 from Lancashire County Council in the last financial year.

The authority has revealed details of grant awarded by its various community champions between April 2018 and March 2019.

They are county councillors who work with cabinet members to support specific groups of residents.

Among the grants was £200 for Coal Clough Lane Community Association to fund food and drink for a Christmas party authorised by the 'Champion for Older People' Cllr Joan Burrows,

The 'Champion for Disabled People', Whitworth and Bacup's Cllr Peter Steen, awarded £1,100 to Hyndburn group Carers Link to provide improved access and repairs to its disabled toilet at its new premises in Accrington.

Cllr Paul Rigby, the 'Champion for Parishes', gave £500 to Billington and Langho Parish Council to pay a new bus shelter seat.
