AN 81-year-old woman was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire at a bungalow.

Crews were called to the small fire on a cooker hob in the house in Humber Square, Burnley, shortly after midnight today.

Kieron Ogden, crew manager at Burnley fire station, said the woman had been in a confused state when firefighters arrived.

He said: "She was unable to understand and open the door, so we forced entry to the back of the property.

"The woman was stood in the kitchen and we got her outside and gave her some oxygen as she had some smoke inhalation."

The woman was then taken by ambulance to hospital.

He added: "It was only a small fire on a cooker hob in the kitchen so our two crews put the fire out quickly.

"We did find an item on the hob and we're not sure what it was but we do believe the woman started the fire accidentally."
