DARWEN Heritage Centre is to produce its first-ever calendar celebrating the history of the town.

It has been prepared by Brian Hilton.

The limited-edition 2020 calendar, announced at last months annual meeting, will feature 12 selected photos from the Heritage Centre archives.

Mr Hilton said: "I am aiming to feature streets, mills, commercial premises as well as people.

"The quality of the images needed to be reasonable for reproduction purposes and the variety as to maintain interest as the months roll by.

"The period covered within the calendar is mainly late Victorian and into the Edwardian period.”

Heritage centre trustee Cllr John East said: "I am so pleased we are producing twelve iconic pictures for their 2020 calendar.

"Representing the very best of Darwen’s historic past, it will made a great Christmas gift for people who love and respect our town for it’s values of community and warmth."

The calendar, costing around £7, will be available from the centre by the end of October.
