Twenty seven Scouts and Explorers from Cumbria will be heading to the United States on July 20 for the World Scout Jamboree.
This event is held every four years in a different country and is an opportunity for young people to meet people from countries all around the world.
The Scouts and Explorers have been raising money to help fund the costs of the World Scout Jamboree and also provide support Scouts from less prosperous countries to travel to the jamboree. They have almost reached their target of £120,000.
As part of this fund raising, Martha Kelly, of Ravenstonedale, who is a student at Settlebeck School in Sedbergh and a member of Kirkby Stephen Explorers, is planning a sponsored swim in Ullswater.
She is to swim from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge, a distance of about 7.3 miles. She will be accompanied by a number of Scouts on kayaks to give her support on the way.
