FANS of park in an East Lancashire town have a chance to vote it the best in the UK.

The search is on to find the best open green space in the country.

Bacup's Stubbylee Park is one of 55 in the North-West nominated for The Fields in Trust UK’s Best Park 2019.

Nationwide 364 have been put forward by the local communities for the title.

Now an an online public vote is under way at www.fieldsintrust.org/best-park/north-west. It closes at noon on Monday August 19.

The nomination for the park on Stubbylee Lane says: "Stubbylee Park in Bacup is strongly supported by local community organisations that have raised over £300,000 to develop the park facilities.

"As well as traditional park features there is a thriving therapeutic and crafts community business and café, a Crisis Support project and the East Lancashire Recovery Project."

Fields in Trust's chief executive Helen Griffiths said: “Our parks and green space provide benefits to the physical health, mental wellbeing and community connections for people that use them, so we are delighted to see a record number of nominations."
