A SELF-EMPLOYED plumber underestimated the strength of a couple of “free range” vodkas he drank at a friend’s house before driving home.

Blackburn magistrates heard Daniel Darani was over the drink-drive limit when he was stopped by police just 150 yards into his journey.

Darani, 37, of Walmsley Street, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was fined £346 with £85 costs and £34 victim surcharge and banned from driving for 17 months.

Peter King, defending, described the two vodkas consumed as free range. “He didn’t know quite how much he had consumed,” said Mr King.
