AN American shop in Nelson full of Wild West gear has expanded.

The Bat-House Emporium, on Rigby Street, sells items that make you feel like it's in the USA, not Pendle.

It is run by Marie and George Batty, who have now expanded their business into what was an empty shop next door.

The shop will sell items similar to what they do currently, with stock including leather jackets, leather motorbike waistcoats, American Indian dream catchers, and Western gear including lots of cowboy-style and trilby hats and metallic bolo ties which lots of the Wild Westers wore.

There is even American Civil War jackets, walking sticks, pictures of America and some historical American and British items, too.

Mrs Batty said: "There wasn't enough room in the current shop and we wanted to display more stock.

"The shop next door had been empty for around two years and we just wanted to do something with it.

"It used to be a shop that sold Asian clothing called Anmol and we thought it would be a good idea to use it to expand.

"We want to grow our business and attract more people to it."

Mrs Batty opened the gift shop with her husband six years ago after they had previously been at Nelson, Burnley and Accrington Markets.

The pair were inspired to open the shop after visiting somewhere similar in Accrington and seeing lots of American things.

She said: "We're selling similar things in the extension, including pictures, t-shirts, guitars, dry flowers and army jackets.

"We just want to offer something a little different for people in Nelson."
