ONE hundred and ninety children from nursery to year 6 at Burton Morewood Primary School in Burton-in-Kendal, took part in a Race for Life fundraising event.

Miss Molly Barker organised the whole school event with school council, which she runs.

All the children participated in a warm up. They then set off in their year groups- the equivalent to 14km. In total the whole school ran 3,500 laps, which is 1,166km.

Miss Barker said: "The school council children, as well as myself, organised the whole school event. It took a lot of preparation and organisation but we were very keen to raise as much money as possible. We were aiming to raise £700 but ended up raising a phenomenal amount of £3,200.

"In school council we meet every Monday to discuss local and global issues and see what we can do to make a change. Cancer Research is a charity all the children wanted to support and raise money for as it is so important and close to so many families within our school."

Charlie Bradfield, from year 4, said: 'I did the Race for Life outside of school with my mum and thought it would be a really fun fundraiser to do with our school."

Abbie Hamer said: "I enjoyed setting up for the day with all of the school council and Miss Barker. I also enjoyed all the teachers joining in. It was awesome."

Laura Fejes said: "It was really hard but I ran as many laps as I could and had a fun time doing it."
