A NEW driver clocked up to 60mph on a 30mph road before his vehicle smashed into a car with children in, flew through the air and ended up landing on its roof, a court was told.

Awais Amil Pervaz's car had three DVD screens in it and witnesses to the "horror," crash had seen the occupants dancing and bobbing about to the deafening music.

Pervaz also ploughed into a parked car, shunting it forward as he showed off on Colne Road, Burnley, the town's magistrates heard.

Pervaz, who had passed his test just months before and was not insured, hit a vehicle carrying two young brothers and their sister. The two little boys banged their heads together in the back and the girl's head hit the window.

The defendant's front passenger suffered a smashed cheekbone and the two rear passengers were also injured.

Pervaz, then 17, was convicted of dangerous driving and no insurance last November 17.

The defendant, of Fairfield Drive, Burnley, was given 270 hours unpaid work and a four month curfew every day between 8pm and 6am.

He was banned for three months, must take an extended re-test and was ordered to pay £300 compensation and £200 costs.

Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, said one driver estimated his speed at about 60mph whilst a pedestrian put it at about 80mph.

Richard Prew, defending, said Pervaz had shown immense immaturity.

He had only just passed his test and he had acted like he owned the road.
