MP Nigel Evans has praised the appointment of the first UN accredited climate change teacher in Lancashire at school in his Ribble Vally constituency.

Rachael Gray, head of geography at St Cecilia’s RC High School in Longridge, is one of only eight specialist teachers in the UK to receive the recognition.

She will host a training day with all its staff on September 2.

Mr Evans attended a special climate change workshop at the school this week.

The MP said: “It was amazing to see so many young people engaged in topics relating to climate change and environmental awareness.

"This is due to the insightful teaching of Rachael Gray, who has emphasised the importance of combatting climate change not only to pupils but also to other staff members. I congratulate her on becoming one of the UK recipients of the UN climate change accreditation for teachers, and I hope that more will follow."
