A DAD-OF-TWO who was diagnosed with incurable cancer hopes for his wish of a dream holiday to come true.

Mark Stewart suffers from terminal spine cancer and has been told he has months to live.

The 50-year-old, of Shorey Bank Way, Darwen, now hopes to have the holiday of a lifetime - but it has to be within about 30 miles from home so he's close to hospital.

Mr Stewart, also a granddad-of-three, is also limited where he can go as he has been left with two metal plates in his back from cancer surgery and is in a wheelchair.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, his sister Karen Shaw, said: "We would have liked to send Mark abroad, but doctors have told him he can't as needs to be within a 30-mile radius of home.

"This is in case he needs to go to hospital, so we're looking at somewhere like Blackpool probably."

Mr Stewart was first diagnosed with sarcoma cancer in his leg in May 2017 but after receiving treatment he was told in November that year he was cancer free.

However in April this year the cancer returned - this time in his spine.

Again, Mr Stewart had to have surgery removing a disc and the tumour from his spine.

But despite this he was told the cancer is incurable and terminal and has three to six months to live.

Mrs Shaw, who lives in Market Drayton, Shropshire, said: "Mark and his wife have been married for four years now and have never had the chance to have that dream holiday or any holiday at all as they have spent nearly all their married life fighting this disease.

"As a family we are heartbroken and devastated and as a sister I am struggling to take in this news.

"I want to try and help my big brother make some memories with his wife and give my amazing brother the chance to complete the items on his bucket list."

Mr Stewart's plight saw a scooter ride organised for him to help raise money to realise his holiday.

The scooter ride took place from the Rivington Barn to The Old Function Room in Darwen on Saturday.

Around 100 people took part in the ride for the keen scooter rider.

Mrs Shaw added: "We are hoping to raise £2000 so that with the time my brother has left he can do these things.

"If you can help us raise these funds we as a family would be eternally grateful and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts."
