POLICE have vowed to continue to crackdown on speeding in a village after catching 45 motorists in the act.

While the Longridge Neighbourhood policing team carried out speed checks in Preston Road on Friday evening, working with Community Roadwatch volunteers, they caught two drivers on their mobile phones while behind the wheel.

A team spokesman said: "The Longridge Neighbourhood team this evening have been working with the Community Roadwatch Volunteers using our mobile speed indicator in the area of Preston Road near to Water Meadows following concerns raised by local residents about traffic speeding there.

"In a period of just over an hour we identified 45 speeding vehicles of all types and two drivers using their hand held mobile phones.

"The maximum speed we recorded in the 30mph zone was 50mph. Hopefully drivers will learn from this and we will try to repeat this event again as soon as we can."
