A BRASS band lover put on a show-stopping concert to raise more than £20,000 for East Lancashire Hospice which cared for his late wife.

Graham Helm, musical director of the 2nd Rossendale Scout Group Band, rallied his musicians and got Rossendale Male Voice Choir and the famed Brighouse and Rastrick Band to perform at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.

Around 1,300 people, the biggest audience for a brass band the hall has seen, raised over an astounding £22,000.

Graham's wife Paula died at the hospice five years ago.

He said: "I am delighted with the number of tickets bought by people who came along to such a special event that had been many months in the making and raised a tremendous amount of money for

East Lancashire Hospice."

Hospice fundraiser Sharon Crymble said: “Graham has been a fantastic supporter of the hospice, and I know how much it means to him after care was provided for his late wife Paula."
