RESIDENTS have spoken of the terrifying moment they woke up to find a car engulfed in flames outside of their homes.
Those living on Hareholme Lane in Cloughfold were woken at around 3.50am on Thursday after hearing bangs and seeing large flashes of light through their windows.
When they went outside it soon became clear that a car was on fire in the street below.
One resident said: “I heard a massive bang and saw a big flash which turned out to be a ball of flames.
“When we went outside we saw that the car was well-alight. Nobody knows who has done it but it looks like it was deliberate.
“All I heard before I got to the door was a lady screaming.”
Nobody was thought to have been hurt in the incident.
A fire service spokesman confirmed that they attended to reports of a car fire on a road and crews used one hose reel to extinguish the blaze.
The police were called.
