A CRASH involving a horse drawn caravan and car closed a major road.

Paramedics treated a boy, man and woman after the incident on the A59 at Chatburn at around 4.15pm on Friday.

Two of the injured people had to be airlifted to hospital, while the third person was taken to hospital by ambulance.

One horse had to be put to sleep, a fire service spokesman confirmed.

The road was closed between Worston Road and Pimlico Link Road.

A spokesman for Clitheroe Fire Station Tweeted: “RTC involving car, horse and cart. Two airlifted to hospital, and casualty taken by road ambulance. Sadly one horse had to be put to sleep. Speedy recovery from all the emergency services involved.”
