A TRIAL date has been set in the murder investigation of Steven Thurston.

Murder accused George Preshur, 30, and Andrew Tate, 22, both of Keele Walk, Blackburn, appeared before judge Robert Altham at Preston Crown Court this morning.

Both men, wearing green tops, white T-shirts and dark trousers, spoke only to confirm their names during the 10 minute hearing

Defending Preshur, Mark Stuart and defending Tate, Peter Gilmour, said no pleas would be entered at this stage.

No bail applications were made.

Both men will next appear at the crown court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on July 18. A trial date has been set for December 9. It is expected to last up to seven days.

Judge Altham said: β€œAt this stage all I need to do is adjourn the case for a plea and trial preparation hearing for July 18 and for trial on December 9. The defendants are remanded into custody.”

Police launched a murder enquiry after the body of Mr Thurston, 50, was found inside his home address on Sussex Drive, Blackburn at about 12.50am on Monday.

A Home Office post mortem examination showed he died from significant head injuries.

A 52-year-old woman from Blackburn was also arrested in connection with the investigation but has been released under investigation.
