TWO men have appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with the murder of Steven Thurston.

George Preshur, 30, and Andrew Tate, 22, both of Keele Walk, Blackburn, were sent in custody to Preston Crown Court where they will appear tomorrow.

Both men spoke only to confirm their names, date of births and nationality during separate hearings.

Police launched a murder enquiry after the body of Mr Thurston, 50, was found inside his home address on Sussex Drive, Blackburn at about 12.50am on Monday.

A Home Office post mortem examination showed he died from significant head injuries.

On Monday several police cars and vans were parked up on the road outside Mr Thurston’s home, which had been taped off by officers.

At the back of the home a blue crime scene tent was erected on a grass verge as investigators searched the house.

In a tribute, Mr Thurston's family said: “Steven was the kindest, caring, loving father, son and brother whose door was always open to help others.”

Several floral tributes were also laid at the scene.

A card in one of the bunches of flowers said: “To dad, we are all going to miss you so much, your life ended too soon.

“Rest in peace. Love you lots.”

Another tribute said: “To dad, we love you, I really hope you’re in a better place, love you always.”

A 52-year-old woman from Blackburn was also arrested in connection with the investigation but has been released under investigation.

Anybody with any more information about the incident should contact the police on 101, quoting log 47 of June 10.
