THE small Spanish village of Arbúcies near Barcelona will always hold a connection to Padiham and Burnley.
This bond was forged when 112 people, 40 from East Lancashire, died when their Dan-Air Comet crashed into the Las Agudes mountain on Saturday, 3, 1970.
The flight was on its way to Costa Brava and an explosion following the impact destroyed the aircraft and instantly killed everyone on board.
The news descended on East Lancs like a shroud.
This picture shows the funeral service at the mass grave held 48-hours after the crash in Arbúcies.
Memorials in the village, as well as Burnley and Padiham, list the names of those who died in the crash.
The cause of the crash was put down to an error in judging the planes true location.
