Community volunteers are holding a tidy-up event in a town's park.

Members of the Friends of Bold Venture Park group, will be out in force on Sunday to help clean up the Darwen park.

Weeding, litter-picking and the removal of invasive plants is on the menu, and anyone who is interested in giving the group a hand is invited to take part.

Group chairperson, Julie Manton said: We'll be meeting at the main gates at the top of Borough Road, Darwen.

"Anyone who wants to join us should bring gardening gloves if possible. All other equipment will be provided.

"All are welcome, including supervised children."

The tidy-up will start at 10am and is expected to last for around two hours.

A second clean-up event has also been scheduled for Saturday July 6 and Sunday July 7.

This will involve meeting at the Scout Hut on Manor Road at 10am, before heading to the park to help volunteers get rid of an invasive plant called Himalayan Balsam.
