A PROGRAMME designed for students who have become disengaged with school life, has been praised by a college.

The Moving On Project, a partnership between Nelson and Colne College and the Prince’s Trust, works with students previously Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) by encouraging them to re-engage with lessons through learning sessions and one-to-one guidance.

As part of the programme, students are offered the chance to obtain their maths and English qualifications as well as other vocational qualifications such as BTECs.

NEET Project Delivery Worker for Nelson and Colne College, Michelle Paice-Jones, said: "Getting NEET students back into a learning environment is not an easy task as different students require varied strategies. However coping mechanisms have been built around individuals to help them flourish in day to day life and the programme continues to evolve and we've seen students develop their self-confidence, personal and professional skills."
