A BLIND pensioner had her bag stolen, by a thief pretending to offer her a helping hand.

Despite getting away with next to nothing, the thief left Anne Gallery without her precious bus pass, which she used every day in 1982 in order to travel into Burnley and Nelson to meet friends and take part in social activities.

The heartless thief, who she said was a youth, struck as Miss Gallery made her way home from the bus stop just before 10pm.

As she walked down the street the youngster asked her for the time before moving to her other side and asking her if she needed help.

Miss Gallery said: "I said I was alright and walked on, then someone came running past and grabbed my bag and ran off.

"I can't understand the mentality of people. They could see I was blind as I had my stick with me."
