BARNFIELD ward Labour representative Cllr June Harrison has been installed as the new Mayor of Hyndburn borough.

Her close friend and Peel ward's Cllr Joyce Plummer will serve as her Mayoress.

Cllr Harrison was made Mayor for 2019/20 in a ceremony in Accrington Town Hall at the weekend.

A councillor for teight years, she moved to Accrington from Burnley 52 years ago when she married her husband Chris.

Cllr Harrison said; “I’m so proud to be able to serve the Borough as Mayor and will give it my all during this special year.”

Cllr Harrison is passionate about her allotment and gardening.

Her four chosen Mayoral charities are Play4Uz2 (a charity raising money for a dedicated Specialist Inclusive Play Area), Derian House Children’s Hospice, the North West Air Ambulance and the Hyndburn branch of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Cllr Harrison’s Civic Service will be held at Accrington’s St Anne’s Church in July.

Her choice of Cllr Plummer as Mayoress caused controversy when Labour changed constitutional rules it introduced in 2013 to allow her to hold the post while remaining a member of the borough cabinet.
