THE ‘complete hammering’ of the Conservatives in the Euro elections is a message to achieve Brexit with or without a deal, Ribble Valley Tory MP Nigel Evans said.

He said the poor performance by both his party and Labour showed people were fed up with Parliament and the government’s failure to get the UK out of the EU.

Mr Evans said: “The Conservative Party took a complete hammering and Labour did badly as well.

“The success of the Brexit Party at their expense is a clear message to get us out of the EU by October 31 or worse will follow. That means get out with or without a deal.”

Cllr Phil Riley, Labour’s agent in Blackburn with Darwen where the party secured its third biggest vote in the poll, said: “We always take elections extremely seriously as we did this one and that effort shows in the result.

“Nationally it is clear that the party’s strategy of trying to achieve balance between Leave and Remain supporters is not understood by voters.”

Pendle Lib Dem Lord Tony Greaves said: “It is quite clear from the results there is now a majority for Remain and a second referendum is the way out of Brexit mess.”
