FIRE crews were called to a house fire in Burnley.

The occupant of the mid-terraced house in Dean Street in the town was out when the blaze started in the kitchen on Saturday.

On his return he noticed smoke and rang 999 and two appliances were sent from Burnley and Padiham fire stations at 3.05pm.

Two hose reels and four breathing apparatus were used to put the fire out and crews were in attendance for around 90 minutes.

Watch manager Alan Ashworth of Padiham Fire Station said: "The occupant appeared to have gone shopping and left the cooker hob on.

"The kitchen was fire damaged and the rest of the house damaged by smoke.

"The house was unoccupied when the fire started. No-one was injured."
